Being obese could have many bad consequences in our health. Most of these health risks are widely known but there are some that we know very little. When it comes to conceiving a baby, obesity can be a thing to worry about. In many countries around the globe, fertility is a major issue amongst couples who wish to conceive. Not surprisingly, obesity is one of the major reasons of this predicament.

The human body is designed for a lot of purposes and functions. One can actually be amazed by how well the parts of our body work. Specifically, how each part helps support the others. Only a few machines can compete with the human body. After thousands of years to study the human body there are still many mysteries hidden within. Nowadays, we abuse our bodies into oblivion and yet it still manage to survive and adapt.

Luckily, self-healing is an enchanting ability of our body. This means that those who find their efforts to conceive have been hampered by obesity have also seen positive changes by losing as little as five to ten percent of your ability to conceive.

For a start, if you're an obese woman planning to be pregnant, you can stay active and attain physical health before being pregnant.

For major problems with conception that has persisted for more than a year, it may be wise to consult a fertility specialist. Though it is rarely a bad idea to adopt a healthier lifestyle you should also consult your doctor before beginning a strict diet or weight loss regimen in order to make sure there aren't other factors that may be causing your weight issues. The more if you have gained a huge amount of weight in such a short time.

Another consideration when it comes to obesity and fertility is that being overweight can also hamper the affects of fertility treatments. This means that the process is typically lengthier and will cost significantly more over time than if obesity were not a factor. When coupled with the risks to the baby this is something that should not be taken lightly when making plans for fertility treatments.

If your BMI is greater than 30 there are many fertility clinics that simply will not offer their services. Some limit it to greater than 35 and others 40. If you feel that fertility treatments are the only course of action available to you and your BMI is greater than 30, the first suggestion you are likely to hear is the suggestion that you make serious weight loss efforts and lifestyle changes before proceeding. You may find that once you begin to shed the pounds, fertility intervention is no longer necessary.

Another reason to be wary about obesity is that it can cause miscarriage during conception. Some other severe results of being obese is that the expectant mother can develop diseases such as gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia and still birth cases. Evidently, obesity isn't just a small hindrance to pregnancy or motherhood. Therefore, pregnancy at this condition must be well-planned.
